Volleyball Splits Saturday Matches

LANSING, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College volleyball team played two matches at the MIAA-NCAC Crossover Challenge at Aim High Sports on Saturday.

Kalamazoo vs. Wooster
The Wooster Scots handed Kalamazoo its first loss of the season with a five-set win Saturday morning.

Wooster won the first set, 25-22, but trailed 2-1 after Kalamazoo won 27-25 and 25-14 in the second and third sets, respectively. Kalamazoo let a lead slip away late in the fourth as the Scots won 25-22. Kalamazoo fell behind early in the fifth, but was still within range trailing just 9-8 and then 11-9, but Wooster scored four of the final six points to win 15-11.

Kalamazoo hit 1.54 in the match compared to .223 for Wooster. 

Madi Goodman led the Hornets with 15 kills. 

Grace Kraft recorded 31 assists and five service aces while Taylor Ferguson led the team with 24 digs. 

Kalamazoo vs. Oberlin
Kalamazoo improved to 7-1 with a sweep of Oberlin in the final match of the weekend, 25-12, 25-18, 25-12.

Kalamazoo took early leads in the first two sets and continued on for the wins. Oberlin took an early lead in the third, but Kalamazoo quickly recovered and on to win the set and the match.

Madi Goodman and Lindsey Nedd each recorded eight kills to lead the offense. Ashley Rill had six kills with eight digs.

Grace Kraft tallied 29 assists with eight digs. Taylor Ferguson was the third Hornet with eight digs in the match. 

Ferguson and McKenna Hepler each had three service aces.

Kalamazoo is back in action on the road Tuesday, Sept. 10 with a non-conference match at Alma.
