Volleyball Sweeps Grace Christian

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College volleyball team won its third consecutive match defeating Grace Christian University in three sets at home on Saturday, 25-21, 25-13, 25-13.

Neither team led by more than four points in the first set, which saw six ties and four lead changes. Kalamazoo led 23-21 before scoring the final two points to win the set.

Kalamazoo led 7-6 in the second set before a 9-0 run gave the Hornets a 16-6 lead. Charlotte Ruiter scored the final point to give the Hornets the 25-13 win.

The third set was tied 8-8 before another 9-0 run by the Hornets gave Kalamazoo a 17-8 lead. Kalamazoo scored eight of the final 13 points to win the set and the match.

Kalamazoo hit .293 in the match compared to .132 by the visiting Tigers.

Brittany Miller led the Hornets with 11 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Halley Johnson added seven kills with a team-high seven digs. Toni Koshmider had five kills with three block assists.

Jana Molby had 23 assists to lead Kalamazoo. Sara Reathaford finished with nine assists.

Molby also had six of Kalamazoo's 15 aces. Molby had five.

Kalamazoo returns to MIAA play next Wednesday, Oct. 12, with a home match against Adrian at 6:30 p.m.
