Volleyball Falls in MIAA Tournament at Albion

ALBION, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College volleyball team's season came to an end Tuesday night as the Hornets fell 25-19, 25-16, 25-17 at Albion College in the MIAA Tournament. Kalamazoo entered the tournament as the sixth seed. Albion is the three seed.

The first set was close throughout, including ties at 15-15, 16-16 and 17-17. The Hornets trailed 19-18 before a 5-0 run gave Albion a 24-18 advantage. A kill by Charlotte Ruiter made it 24-19 before Albion scored the final point to win the set 25-19.

Kalamazoo trailed 11-9 in the second set before a 7-1 run by Albion put the Britons up 18-10. The Hornets closed the deficit to five (21-16) before Albion scored the final four points to win the set 25-16.

The third set was tied 7-7 before an 8-1 run by Albion made it 15-8. Kalamazoo cut the deficit to six (19-13) late, but could not get any closer as Albion closed out the set (25-17) to win the match.

Albion hit .376 overall compared to .187 by Kalamazoo.

Halley Johnson led the Hornets with eight kills and eight digs. Charlotte Ruiter added seven kills, while Ann Lawrence finished with six.

Jana Molby had a team-high 13 assists. Sara Reathaford added eight with four digs and two aces.

Morgan Shearer shared the team lead with eight digs.
