Volleyball Falls at Home to Olivet

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College volleyball team was defeated by The University of Olivet at home Friday night in four sets. Kalamazoo won the first set 25-18 before dropping the next three 25-21, 25-21, 25-22.

After Kalamazoo won the first set, Olivet came out and scored the first seven points of the second set. Kalamazoo cut the deficit to two (23-21) late in the set before Olivet scored the final two points. The third set was tied 20-20 before Olivet scored five of the last six points to win the set. The Hornets trailed 24-20 in the fourth set. Kalamazoo scored two before the Comets scored the final point to win the set and the match.

Olivet hit .181 overall compared to .151 by Kalamazoo. Kalamazoo had eight service aces compared to four by Olivet. Olivet had 10 blocks compared to seven by the Hornets.

Savannah Chapie led Kalamazoo with 13 kills and just one error for a .545 percentage in 22 attempts. She also led the team with four block assists.

Taylor Stephens finished with 11 kills. Halley Johnson had nine.

Rorie Dougherty led the team with 22 assists. Sara Reathaford finished with 17.

Lizzy Rachiele had a team-high 21 digs. Reathaford added 15, while Johnson had 12. Rachel Meston had 11 digs with a team-high three service aces.

Kalamazoo travels to Adrian next on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m.
