LANSING, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's cross country team competed in the Lansing CC Invite on Friday (Sept. 23) at Grand Woods Park. The Hornets finished fifth out of 15 teams with 145 points in the 5k race. Kalamazoo was the top NCAA DIII team to finish as the field featured NCAA DII, NCAA DIII, NAIA, and NJCCA teams.

Davenport won the event with 43 points, with Hillsdale coming in second (51 points), Spring Arbor in third (111 points), Siena Heights in fourth (142 points), and the Hornets came in fifth.

The top finisher for Kalamazoo was Paige Anderson, who finished in 12th with a time of 20:02. Maddie Hanulcik came in 43rd by crossing the finish line at 21:04. The subsequent three runners finished with six seconds of each other as Maya Alkema (21:28) finished in 50th, Alison Hankins (21:31) in 53rd, and Allison Nutt (21:34) in 55th.

Rounding out the scoring was Haleigh Nower in 61st and Annalise Bailey in 62nd. Nower finished at 21:43, and Bailey crossed the line one second later at 21:44.

Also running for the Hornets were Zenaida Sackett (21:55), Lucy VanDemark (22:35), Alisa Mason (23:06), Mart Klenke (23:07), Cate Cotter (24:25), and Madi Magda (24:25).

"Today was an interesting race," said head coach Kyle Morrison. "We scaled our top five runners back and gave them pacing duties of teammates as part of a workout. The hot and humid conditions made the tail end of the race pretty tough, but I was proud of our efforts. This was the end of a work week, and the women are looking to be a bit more fresh for Calvin next week."

Kalamazoo will head to Grand Rapids to compete in the Calvin Knight Invite on Friday (Sept. 29).
