Women's Cross Country Finishes Fourth at MIAA Championships

HOLLAND, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's cross country team competed in the 2023 MIAA Championships on Saturday (Oct. 28) at the Three Fires Golf Club. The Hornets finished fourth for the third consecutive season with 111 points.

Hope and Calvin won the event at 33 points, with Trine finishing third at 80 points. Kalamazoo is closing the gap on Trine from being 70 points behind the Thunder last season to 31 behind them this season. Saint Mary's rounded out the top five with 138 points.

Paige Anderson collected All-MIAA First Team honors for the second straight season after finishing fourth overall at 21:25. This beat Anderson's previous personal best of 22:02 by 37 seconds. Alison Hankins snuck inside the top-20 at 19th, crossing the line at 22:39. Haleigh Nower bested her previous personal best by 25 seconds after coming in 32nd at 23:20.

Allison Nutt and Maddie Hanulcik both ran a 23:51, with Nutt just finishing before Hanulcik in 46th. Nutt also set a new personal best 6k time by 56 seconds, while Hanulcik finished 33 seconds faster than her previous personal best. Alisa Mason (23:59) and Maya Alkema (24:22) rounded out the scoring for the Hornets, finishing in 50th and 59th. Alkema broke her previous personal best by 1:16.

Also running for the Hornets were Cate Cotter (24:43), Grace McGlynn (25:16), Zenaida Sackett (25:37), Lucy VanDemark (26:48), Madi Magda (28:15), and Pauline Hawkes (30:02). Cotter (three seconds), Sackett (46 seconds), and Magda (33 seconds) all ran personal bests today.

Kalamazoo will return to the course on Saturday (Nov. 11) at the NCAA DIII Great Lakes Regional.
