ANGOLA, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team swept a doubleheader at Trine University on Friday, winning 5-3 in the opener and 8-3 in the second game.

The games were originally scheduled to be played in Kalamazoo, but were moved due to rain and field conditions in Kalamazoo. Sunday's doubleheader with Trine is now scheduled to be played in Kalamazoo at 1 p.m.

Kalamazoo put two runs on the board in the first inning of the opener with a 2-run home run to left field by Scott Devine.

Trine countered with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the first to tie the score.

Kalamazoo scored another run in the second only to see Trine tie it back up 3-3 in the third.

The Hornets pushed two more runs across in the sixth and got out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win.

Dylan Pierce (3-2) went the distance on the mound, allowing no earned runs on three hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

Mitchell VanKoevering was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Devine, Carter Chandler, Brett Garwood and Joey Aliotta (double) each had one hit.

Game two started in similar fashion with Kalamazoo scoring two runs in the first and Trine tying the score in the bottom half.

Kalamazoo made it a 4-2 game in the top of the fourth when Carter Chandler led off with a triple and Ian Kobernick followed with a home run.

Both teams scored a run in the fifth making it 5-3 Kalamazoo, and the Hornets added runs in the sixth and seventh leading to the 8-3 final.

Aaron Schwark (5-1) pitched the complete game for Kalamazoo, allowing three runs on nine hits while striking out seven and walking just one.

Mitchell VanKoevering, Scott Devine, Carter Chandler and Ian Kobernick each had two hits. Devine doubled and drove in two runs for the second straight game. Kobernick doubled in addition to the home run and also drove in two.

Kalamazoo hosts Trine in the regular season finale for both teams on Sunday at Woodward Field beginning at 1 p.m. The Hornets are currently in fourth place in the MIAA and need just one win or one Albion loss to clinch the program's first-ever berth in the MIAA Tournament.
