KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College football team sent its seniors out with a 21-3 win over the Alma College Scots Saturday, Nov. 9 at Angell Field.

"It's a great feeling to send our seniors out with a victory," Kalamazoo Head Coach Jaime Zorbo said.

Though Alma got on the board first with a field goal, Kalamazoo's response was loud and clear. Sophomore quarterback Justin Danzy appeared to be sacked midway through the first quarter, but broke away and found senior wide receiver Josh Wise wide open on the sideline. Wise scampered 69 yards down the sideline for K's first score of the game.

Kalamazoo took the 7-3 lead into halftime, but did not wait long to get on the scoreboard. Senior linebacker Thomas Tabor intercepted Alma quarterback Jarrett Leister and returned the interception for a touchdown. The Hornets would add one more score in the fourth quarter to finish off the Scots and win on senior day.

Kalamazoo held Alma to just 156 yards of offense. Senior Blake Simon made 12 tackles in the game with sophomore Dylan Zerki and Connor Rzeznik each recorded 10 tackles.

"Give all the credit to Coach [Ryan] McElwain and his staff," Zorbo said. "Alma shows many different formations, but our guys were ready and played well."

Zorbo also praised the front seven specifically. Leister was under pressure the entire game.

"Our front seven played phenomenal," said Zorbo. "It makes life a lot easier on defense when we can generate pressure with just our front four."

Wise finished the day with six receptions for 114 yards and a touchdown. Despite the game being a defensive one, Danzy still managed 242 yards through the air.

"Justin [Danzy] had to shake some rust off after not playing last week," said Zorbo. "We were out of sync on offense for most of the day, but did enough to secure a victory."

As a team, Kalamazoo totaled 279 yards of total offense. Each team committed a single turnover.

Twelve seniors were honored before the game for playing their final games at Angell Field.

"I couldn't ask for a better group of seniors," Zorbo said. "The program is in a much better place now than when they arrived as freshman. I couldn't be prouder to have coached them the last four years."

Kalamazoo travels to Olivet next Saturday, Nov. 16, for its final game of the season against the Comets.
