Football falls at home to Trine

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team lost 45-12 to Trine University in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play at Angell Field on Saturday.

Trine scored twice in the first six minutes to take a 14-0 lead, but Kalamazoo made it 14-6 on a 3-yard touchdown run by Alex White with 5:51 left in the first quarter.

Trine opened things up in the second quarter with a pair of touchdowns and a field goal as time expired to take a 31-6 lead into halftime.

The Thunder scored two more touchdowns in the third quarter to go up 45-6. Kalamazoo scored again in the fourth quarter on a 3-yard pass from Alex White to Alex Dietrich to make it 45-12.

Trine gained 501 total yards while limiting Kalamazoo to 238. The Thunder were 8-of-16 on third downs compared to 3-of-13 for the Hornets.

Freshman quarterback Alex White was 20-of-31 passing for 165 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Alex Dietrich caught nine passes for 101 yards and a touchdown. Cameron Shegos (24 yards) and Shon Powell (11 yards) each had three receptions. Powell led the Hornets in rushing with 51 yards on 12 carries.

Connor Rzeznik and Dylan Zerki each had 11 tackles to lead the Hornet defense while BJ Smith finished with 10.

Alan Mencer and Josiah Thomas each had a pair of quarterback sacks while Nick Peters was in on another sack.

Kalamazoo plays its final home game of the season next week, Nov. 8, against Adrian College at 1 p.m.
