Hornets beat Manchester on the road

Carl Ghafari playing basketball

The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team defeated Manchester 63-58 on the road today. It was the first win of the year for the Hornets , who now sit at 1-1 this season.

Kalamazoo got off to a slow start in the first half shooting just 25.8 percent from the field and let the Spartans take a 23-16 lead into the half. In the second half the Hornets came out firing red hot and wound up finishing the second half hitting 16 of their 27 shots from the field. A lot of this was due to the standout performance of Adam Peters who scored 22 of his game-high 26 points in the second half.

Carl Ghfari helped out the Hornets defensively by locking down on defense and picking Manchester's pocket four times. Ghafari also was the third leading scorer for the Hornets with nine points. Keith Garber chipped in ten points on four of six shooting and Jake Whitney led the team on the boards with nine rebounds. Kalamazoo showed great discipline at the free-throw line, sinking 12 of its 14 attempts.

This is the second time in a row the Hornets have defeated the Spartans after beating them 93-87 in last year's season opener. Kalamazoo will have very little time to rest as it will take on Earlham tomorrow afternoon in the second round of MIAA/HCAC challenge.
