ALMA, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team hoped to ring in the New Year with a win in its MIAA opener but the Hornets ran into a hot shooting team from Alma College. Shooting 62.7 percent from the floor, the Scots defeated the Hornets, 107-63.

Alma's sharpshooting extended beyond the 3-point arc as the Scots drained six threes in the first four minutes of play as they jumped out to a 20-2 lead and never allowed the Hornets to recover.

The Hornets crashed the glass hard throughout the contest outrebounding the Scots 34-31.

Offensively, Chase Baysdell paced the Hornets scoring 13 points while also bringing in five rebounds.

Tommy Cerven and Jake Whitney each ended their evening with nine points. Tanner Blyly scored eight.

The Hornets will look to bounce back on Saturday when they welcome Trine University for a 3 p.m. tip inside Anderson Athletic Center.
