ADRIAN - The Kalamazoo College men's golf team finished fifth at the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Adrian College at Lenawee Country Club on Friday.

Kalamazoo freshman David Smith was medalist for today's round with a low score of 70. Smith had three eagles on the afternoon, all on par 5's. His score is the lowest score by a Kalamazoo College men's golfer since at least 1998, the oldest year complete statistics are available.

Kalamazoo shot 311 as a team, one stroke ahead of Olivet and three strokes behind Hope in fourth place. Calvin posted the lowest team score (298).

"We continue to see improvement this year," said Kalamazoo Head Coach Mitch Wilson. "Even with that improvement, overall, the team was somewhat disappointed with our performance as Lenawee is one of our favorite places to play. Tonight, we need to celebrate David's accomplishment. Tomorrow, we will focus on improving our course management and on-course mental game as we get ready for Bedford Valley and Olivet on Wednesday."

Will Reichle and Tibin John each shot an 80 for Kalamazoo. Scott Manski rounded out the top four with an 81.

Kalamazoo College returns to action with an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Olivet on Wednesday, Sept. 18.

"This will be a tough week, as we have three matches in a six day stretch and classes are starting," added Wilson. "It will be an adjustment period and we need to really pull together as a team to continue our success we have had in the fall thus far."
