GRAND RAPIDS - The Kalamazoo College men's golf team finished sixth at the final MIAA Jamboree of the season hosted by Calvin College at Watermark Country Club on Monday.

Kalamazoo shot 327 as a team, just three strokes behind Alma for fifth place and four strokes ahead of Albion in seventh.

David Smith was second overall with a 75. The freshman from Highland (Everest Collegiate) was recognized with All-MIAA First Team honors following the meet.

"Having David earn All-MIAA honors is quite a feat, especially for a freshman," said Kalamazoo Head Coach Mitch Wilson. "Of the eight courses we play in the fall, David played six of them for the first time in an MIAA jamboree. He is the first Hornet first-team All-MIAA award winner since Preshant Desai back in 1994. We have a young team and we look forward to even greater success from David and the rest of the team in the 2014 MIAA season."

Agron Ziberi shot a 79 to tie for 13th overall.

Will Reichle came in at 86 while Scott Manski rounded out the scoring at 87.

Kalamazoo finished the 2013 season in fifth place shooting an average of 316.2 per round. The Hornets trailed Adrian (311.4) while finishing ahead of Albion (318.7), Alma (319.2), and Olivet (322.1).

"We made tremendous strides this fall in our program," Wilson said. "Our overall team average was 10 strokes lower than in 2012 and we were only one stroke per man per tournament away from earning a birth in the coveted MIAA Spring Automatic Qualifier Tournament. The team is very proud of their fifth place MIAA finish and that we have become competitive in the conference."

"Today was somewhat bittersweet in that it was senior Will Reichle's last MIAA jamboree," Wilson added. "Will has shown great leadership this fall and we were so happy that he was medalist at our home jamboree. We will miss Will and his "grind it out" attitude on the course. He has set a great example for the underclassmen."
