KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team defeated Trine University 1-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on Saturday.

Kalamazoo outshot Trine 7-3 in the first half, but neither team was able to score before halftime.

Kalamazoo's Camilo Cervino finally put one in goal in the 61st minute and the Hornets held on for the 1-0 conference victory. Joshua Robison assisted on the goal.

"It was a great pass into Cervino on the goal," said Kalamazoo Head Coach Lumumba Shabazz. "He held off the defender and hit it with his left foot. It was a great goal."

Kalamazoo outshot Trine 13-7 for the game, including 3-2 on goal.

A total of 25 fouls were called in the contest with six yellow cards handed out.

"We were a little off today and the game certainly wasn't pretty," said Shabazz. "Talent includes resiliency and grit and we showed that today.

Kalamazoo returns to action at Adrian on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.

"The game today was great preparation for what is sure to be a test on Tuesday," added Shabazz.
