Kalamazoo defeats Hope 2-1

Beau Prey playing soccer.

The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team got a huge road win on Tuesday night as it took down Hope 2-1. The Hornets are only the third team to beat the Flying Dutchmen this season. Kalamazoo moved to 6-4-2 overall, and 4-2-1 in conference play.

The teams went into the half tied up at 0-0, which was unusual for the Dutchmen who've won nine of their last 10 games by a combined score of 22-8. The Hornets hung tough with Hope and kept it even until the final 20 minutes of the game when Kyle Hernandez broke the tie on a free kick goal in the 71st minute. Hope quickly tied the game up with a goal of its own in the 76th minute, but Roger Mason Darling put Kalamazoo up for good in the 77th minute off a corner from Jordan Veillette.

Kalamazoo has now won three games in a row, and four of its last five. After tonight the Hornets have a firm grip of third place in the MIAA.

Beau Prey had another stellar game with five saves and only one goal allowed. His performance was especially impressive as Hope had scored 24 goals through 12 games entering tonight.

The Hornets will face another road test Saturday, Oct. 11 when they take on conference foe Adrian.
