Men's Swimming & Diving Competes Against Saginaw Valley and Alma

CENTER, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's swimming and diving competed in the Saginaw Valley Tri-Meet on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 8), which included Alma. The Hornets split the day with a 214-77 win over Alma and a 231-69 loss to Saginaw Valley.

In total, 18 athletes finished within the top four of their events, including five second-place finishes, five third-place finishes, and eight fourth-place finishes.

In diving events, Sam Ankley returned after studying abroad last season to finish second in the 1-meter with a score of 237.95 and also finished second in the 3-meter after scoring 237.75. Luke Middlebrook had a third-place finish in the 3-meter at 206.20 and finished fourth in the 1-meter by scoring 203.90.

Ben Pickrel ended up with four top-four finishes, including second in the 200 Fly (1:59.81), second in the 200 IM (2:03.69), third in the 200 Back (2:01.63), and was a part of the third-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay with Erik Danielson, Oliver Tye, and Tim Karubas (1:39.69). Kalamazoo placed another team in fourth in the 200 Medley Relay with Fuzail Ahmed, JJ Horsfield, Alden Ehrhardt, and Daniel Koselka (1:42.03). The other relay with a top-four finish was the 200 Free Relay by taking third (1:30.86) with Koselka, Ehrhardt, Karubas, and Zach Butters taking part.

Tye was the other second-place finisher in the 100 Fly (54.51), and teammate Ehrhardt also came in fourth (55.76). Ehrhardt finished fourth in the 200 Fly (2:10.22) as well. In the 100 Breast, Horsfield came in third (1:02.00), and Danielson finished fourth (1:03.64). Danielson also finished fourth (2:22.06) in the 200 Fly. In addition, Ahmed had two fourth-place finishes in the 100 Back (57.35) and the 200 Back (2:07.36).

The Hornets compete again on Friday (Oct. 14) in a dual at Albion, beginning at 5 p.m.
