Men's Swimming & Diving Splits Decisions with Hope and Olivet

HOLLAND, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's swimming and diving team competed against Hope and Olivet at the Hope Tri-Meet on Friday evening (Jan. 20). The Hornets defeated the Comets 178-48 before falling to the Flying Dutchmen 155-87. Kalamazoo had 17 top-four finishers on the evening.

Sam Ankley took first in both the 1-meter (300.05 points) and 3-meter (284.4 points) dive events. In second for both events was Luke Middlebrook with 241.75 points and 263.65 points. Rounding out the diving events for Kalamazoo was Jose Torres-Rios by finishing fourth in both events and scoring 179.25 and 180.9 points, respectively. The 400 Medley Relay team of Ben Pickrel, Erik Danielson, Oliver Tye, and Tim Karubas claimed second with a time of 3:39.15.

Zach Butters came away with the lone first-place finish in the swimming events, finishing the 1650 Free in 17:16.26. The Hornets had many swimmers finish in second, including Tye (100 Free), Pickrel (200 Back), Butters (500 Free), and Danielson (200 Breast). Tye had a time of 48.58, Pickrel finished in 1:58.45, Butters touched the wall at 4:59.52, and Danielson swam a 2:19.62.

Coming in third in their respective events were Noah Eckenroth (1650 Free - 17:39.41), Pickrel (400 IM - 4:22.51), and Fuzail Ahmed (200 Back - 2:04.09). The fourth-place finishers were Tye (50 Free - 22.51) and Nick Cohee (200 Breast - 2:28.66).

The Hornets will next compete in their final regular season meet in a dual at Alma on Saturday (Jan. 28), Beginning at 1 p.m.
