Men's Tennis Garners Three All-MIAA Selections

The Kalamazoo College men's tennis All-MIAA graphic.

The Kalamazoo College men's tennis team had three student-athletes named to All-MIAA teams on Thursday (Apr. 27). Gabe Vidinas was selected as the 2023 MIAA Most Valuable Player and to his third All-MIAA team (two firsts and a second). Peter Fitzgerald was also a first team selection for the second consecutive season. Finally, Adnan Alousi collected second team honors for the second time in his first two seasons.

Kalamazoo finished the 2023 regular season with a 9-7 record, including an undefeated 6-0 MIAA record, which resulted in another MIAA Championship. The Hornets collected non-conference wins over Oberlin, Augustana, and Covenant and an exhibition win over Olivet to accompany their undefeated conference record.

As a senior from Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Vidinas took on the role of playing #1 singles and doubles for Kalamazoo in 2023. He was 7-8 in that first singles spot, including 4-1 in the MIAA. Vidinas played most of his doubles matches with his partner, Fitzgerald, and is currently 8-7 with a 5-0 MIAA record. This is Kalamazoo's second consecutive MIAA MVP selection, as Ian Yi took home the honor last season.

Fitzgerald is a senior from Petoskey, Mich., playing in the #1 doubles spot and the #2 singles spot for the Hornets. In the regular season, Fitzgerald went 12-5 in singles matches with a 6-0 record in MIAA contests. He played most of his doubles matches with Vidinas and is currently 9-8 with a 6-0 MIAA record.

A Huntington Woods, Mich. sophomore, Alousi competes in the #2 doubles spot and the #3 singles spot. He has the best singles record on the team at 14-6 with a perfect 6-0 MIAA record. Alousi also had the best doubles record at 10-7 during the regular season with another 6-0 MIAA record MIAA record, mostly playing doubles with Casey Johnson.

The Hornets will take on Trine in the MIAA Tournament Semifinals on Thursday (Apr. 27) with a chance to advance to the tournament finals.
