Softball splits doubleheader with Calvin

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College softball team lost the first game of a doubleheader with Calvin 10-8 on Saturday.

Kalamazoo took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first and led 3-0 after two innings. Calvin evened the score in the third before adding four runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to take a 10-3 lead. Kalamazoo battled back with three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh before coming up short.

Calvin had 16 hits in the game compared to eight for Kalamazoo. 

Maddy Sinkovich was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Isabella Kirck had a triple while driving in two runs and scoring twice. Querubin Dubois stole three bases for the Hornets while scoring twice.

Taylor Clements pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, allowing just two hits while striking out two.

Kalamazoo won the second game, 10-2.

Kalamazoo scored a run in the first and three in the second to take a 4-0 lead. The Hornets added six runs in the fourth to go up 10-0. Calvin scored twice in the bottom of the fifth and had the bases loaded but was unable to extend the game as Isabella Kirck made a nice grab on a soft liner for the final out.

Taylor Clements allowed six hits while striking out two to earn the win in the circle.

Kirck was 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Erin DuRoss was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. 

Querubin Dubois, Dana Page and Angelia Evangelista each had two hits in the game. Maddy Sinkovich had a triple and scored twice.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to travel to Defiance College for a nonconference doubleheader on Sunday, April 12 at 1 p.m.
