DEFIANCE, OH - The Kalamazoo College softball team lost both games of a road doubleheader 5-3, and 6-4, to Defiance on Sunday afternoon. Kalamazoo is now 6-16 overall this season.
In game one Kalamazoo held a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the fourth but surrendered four runs over the fourth and fifth innings. After trailing 5-3 the Hornets weren't able to get anymore runs up on the board for the rest of the game.
Victoria Najacht threw all six innings for the Hornets, giving up five runs on nine hits.
In the second game the Hornets faced a 4-1 deficit heading into the top of the fifth but were able to fight their way back with three runs and tie the game. Unfortunately Defiance added two runs in the bottom of the sixth to ultimately win the game.
Abby Anderson, Emma Patrash, and Briana Huisken all had RBIs to back pitcher Erin DuRoss, who gave up four earned runs over six innings. DuRoss and Anderson also each stole a base in the game.
The Hornets next game is Thursday, Apr. 16 at home against Adrian.
