Softball splits doubleheader with UM-Dearborn

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College softball team split a doubleheader with U of M Dearborn during Senior Day on Friday, winning the opener 9-1 in five innings before dropping the finale 9-8.

After falling behind in the first game, Kalamazoo quickly took the lead in the bottom of the first. The Hornets used a five run third inning to go up 7-1 before driving in the final two runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

Kalamazoo had only four hits in the game while making the most of nine walks. Querubin Dubois had two of Kalamazoo's hits including a three run home run. The senior also had two stolen bases in the game, extending her single season record total and breaking the career record total with 25. She finished the day with 26.

Erin DuRoss earned the win in the circle scattering seven hits while striking out three and walking just one.

Kalamazoo fell behind early in the second game as well, but scored five runs in the bottom of the first to take a 5-2 lead. The Hornets led 8-3 after the second inning, but the Wolverines scored two in the third and three in the fourth to even the score. Dearborn pulled ahead with a run in the sixth. Kalamazoo had runners on base in the seventh, but could not push the tying or winning run across.

Kalamazoo pounded out 15 hits in the game, including three each from Paige Maguire and Emma Patrash. Patrash also drove in three runs. Abby Anderson and Angelia Evangelista each had two hits. Evangelista and Isabella Kirck each had a triple. 

Kalamazoo is scheduled to play its final games of the season at home against Manchester on Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m.
