Softball loses season finale to Manchester

KALAMAZOO, MI - The Kalamazoo College softball team lost its final two games of the season to Manchester University on Saturday, 10-2 and 9-8.

Manchester scored five runs in the first two innings while adding five runs in the sixth to complete the 10-2 win in the opener. The visiting Spartans had 12 hits to Kalamazoo's seven.

Isabella Kirck was 2-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases in the game. Tracy Shuryan pitched two innings in relief, allowing just one hit while striking out two and walking one.

Kalamazoo led the second game 4-1 after four innings, but allowed six runs in the fifth and eventually trailed 9-4 going into the bottom of the seventh. Kalamazoo rallied for four runs in the final frame but left the tying run on base as the game ended.

Kalamazoo had 10 hits in the game led by Abby Anderson's 3-for-4 effort. Dana Page and Querubin Dubois each had two hits in the game while Emma Patrash and Paige Maguire each drove in two runs.

Dubois broke the single season record for hits (38) while also breaking the school record for batting average in a season (.437).

Kalamazoo matched last season's win total while moving up a spot in the MIAA with three more conference wins.
