Softball Splits with MIT, Gustavus Adolphus on Monday

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Kalamazoo College softball team split a pair of games on Monday in Florida. The Hornets lost 20-4 to No. 17 MIT before beating Gustavus Adolphus 5-2.

Kalamazoo vs. MIT

Kalamazoo lost Monday's opener 20-4 to No. 17 Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Engineers scored eight runs in the first and 12 in the second, finishing with 18 hits overall. Kalamazoo scored all four of its runs in the fifth, finishing with six hits, while committing five errors.

Brynna Garden led the Hornets with two hits and an RBI. Landrie Fridsma had a double and two RBIs. Bella Caza also drove in a run.

Jordan Wesaw did not allow a run in three and a third innings of relief in the circle.

Kalamazoo vs. Gustavus Adolphus

Despite trailing 2-1 after two innings, Kalamazoo rallied to defeat Gustavus Adolphus College 5-2 Monday afternoon.

Kalamazoo scored five runs on seven hits. Gustavus was held to just one hit, scoring both runs on an error after a pair of walks in the bottom of the second.

Lizzy Rottenberk, Emma Newlove and Shelby Bennett each had two hits for the Hornets. Newlove had a double and drove in two runs.

Jordan Cook and Maddy Vrba combined for 11 strikeouts while allowing just one hit. Cook struck our four in 3.1 innings. Maddy Vrba struck out six in 3.2 innings.

Kalamazoo faces Wisconsin-Oshkosh Tuesday morning followed by an afternoon contest against Colby. Both games are scheduled for Legends Way in Clermont.
