Landrie Fridsma of the Kalamazoo College softball team was selected as the MIAA Softball Player of the Week on Monday (Mar. 25). In just her second week of collegiate softball, Fridsma picked up her first career player of the week honor.
Kalamazoo continued its season with four games in Florida this past week against Middlebury, Western New England, Carleton, and Buffalo State. The Hornets defeated the Panthers 11-8 before falling to the Golden Bears 8-4, the Knights 9-6 in nine innings, and the Bengals 3-2.
Fridsma had multiple hits in three of the four games, finishing 10-16 (.625) with seven runs scored, two RBI, a walk, and six stolen bases. Her best game came against Carleton when she was 4-5 with four runs scored and three stolen bases. Six games into her first season of collegiate softball, Fridsma is hitting .500 (12-24) with a .538 on-base percentage and a .542 slugging percentage. She also has a double, eight runs scored, two RBI, two walks, one strikeout, and six stolen bases.
The Hornets will finish their trip to Florida, featuring games against #17 MIT (twice), Gustavus Adolphus, UW-Oshkosh, and Colby (twice) from Mar. 25-27.
