Women's Basketball defeats Albion 77-55

KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team defeated Albion College 77-55 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on Saturday.

The visiting Britons held a lead for the first eight minutes of the game before Kalamazoo took an 11-10 lead with 11:59 left in the first half. Kalamazoo led 20-19 with 5:03 before outscoring Albion 16-4 over the final five minutes to take a 36-23 lead into halftime.

Kalamazoo maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half and led by as many as 27 points (58-31) with 11:12 remaining. Albion used a 20-6 run over the next seven minutes to cut the deficit to 13 (64-51), but Kalamazoo recovered in the final minutes for the 22-point win.

Kalamazoo shot 40.6 percent overall while hitting 8-of-22 3-pointers and 17-of-22 free throws. Albion shot 35.8 percent overall with 2-of-10 3's and 15-of-22 free throws.

Albion held a slight edge in rebounds, 43-39, but turned the ball over 22 times compared to a season-low of 10 for Kalamazoo.

Grace Smith scored a career-high 15 points with seven rebounds and seven assists in 24 minutes off the bench to lead the Hornets. Nicole Antoine fouled out with 15 points, three rebounds and two steals.

Hannah Maness also posted a career-high with 14 points hitting 4-of-7 3's and both free throw attempts.

Emily Lindsay scored 12 points with three rebounds and four assists.

Kalamazoo remains in fourth place in the MIAA following the win. The Hornets play next at Alma College on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 7:30 p.m.
