Hornets win big over Wooster

Querubin Dubois playing basketball.

The Hornets bounced back from yesterday's tough loss with a big 82-57 win today in the Nan Nichols Tournament over host Wooster College. The Hornets will return to Kalamazoo from the tournament with a record of 1-1.

Emily Mickus hit a jumper six minutes into the game to put the Hornets up 14-9 and after that Kalamazoo started to break away before halftime as it then scored 11 unanswered points and jumped out to 25-9 lead. The Hornets went into the half with a 49-22 lead.

Kalamazoo never let up in the second half and didn't let the Fighting Scots come anywhere near striking distance. Offense was plentiful and well distributed among the Hornets as Perri Nicholson, Emily Lindsay, Kelsey Adamski, and Danielle Simon all reached double figures in scoring and the team shot 51 percent as a whole.

The Hornets were impressive defensively combining for 12 steals — Querubin Dubois leading the way with four. They held Wooster to 34 percent from the field and only allowed them to score 22 points in the first half. Adamski, Dubois, and Nicholson were all effective on the glass combining for 22 rebounds.

The women don't have a lot of time to rest as they'll travel to play Dominican (Ill.) on Thursday, Nov.20.
