Kalamazoo defeats Olivet on the road 81-80

Emily Lindsay playing basketball.

The Hornets defeated Olivet 81-80 on the road Saturday night. The women move back to .500 at both 3-3 overall and 1-1 in MIAA play.

Kalamazoo led the Comets for virtually the entire game, but was never able to completely pull away until the final buzzer.  The Hornets took a 39-31 lead into the half but the Comets chipped away at it, and even regained the lead momentarily in the second half.

The Hornets were able to outscore Olivet and come away with the victory in this high scoring contest due to the balanced scoring attack of starters Perri Nicholson, Grace Smith, Emily Lindsay, and Kelsey Adamski who combined for 54 points on 22 for 41 shooting. Perri Nicholson had a scintillating performance with a season high 20 points on nine of 15 shooting, while adding seven rebounds, three steals, and one assist.

Kelsey Adamski was impressive defensively with four steals, and also showed off her true point guard skills playing the role of distributor once again with a team high four assists. Querubin Dubois led a productive Hornet bench that combined for 19 points with seven points and six rebounds and one steal in just eighteen minutes. Most importantly Dubois got into the lane and earned a team high seven free throw attempts. She's been an aggressive spark of energy off the bench all year with her defensive hustle and ability to get to the line.

The Hornets could've put this game away before the very last second if they had shot a little sharper from the free throw line. The team shot a combined 19 for 34 from the line and their inability to hit the freebies let the Comets hang around until the last second.

Kalamazoo will try to build on this win Wednesday, Dec. 10 at home against The University of Michigan - Dearborn.
