Hannah Heeren's SAAC Women's Hornet of the Week graphic.

Hannah Heeren of the Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team was named the SAAC Women's Hornet of the Week on Wednesday (Apr. 12).

Kalamazoo opened conference play with senior day against Adrian (Apr. 8). The Hornets won convincingly, downing the Bulldogs 15-3.

Heeren was the most complete player on the field, getting the job done on the offensive and defensive ends. She finished with the most points at six off four goals and two assists. Two of the goals came in the first quarter, as well as both assists to Abbie Caza. Heeren scored once in the third and then another in the fourth with a player advantage. She also had the most ground balls with six and draw controls at five to gain possession for the Hornets. Defensively, Heeren tied Emma Curcuru with three caused turnovers to limit the offensive chances for the Bulldogs. Through 12 games this season, Heeren leads the team in many categories, including assists (12), points (53), ground balls (40), draw controls (66), and caused turnovers (23) while being second in goals (41).

In her first two seasons, Heeren was named the MIAA Rookie of the Year and to the All-MIAA Second Team as a sophomore. She has also been named the MIAA Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week twice. She has filled up the stat sheet in her career, scoring 152 goals and collecting 28 assists for 180 points in 43 games. Heeren also has 184 draw controls, 141 ground balls, and 70 caused turnovers to her name.

The Hornets continued MIAA play with a home game against Calvin on Tuesday (Apr. 11) and then will go on the road at Trine on Friday (Apr. 14).
