Women's Lacrosse Collects Three Selections to CSC Academic All-District At-Large Team

The Kalamazoo women's lacrosse CSC Academic All-District At-Large Team graphic including Mairin Boshoven, Emma Curcuru, and Vivian Schmidt.

The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team had three individuals selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, as announced on Tuesday (May 23). The student-athletes selected were Mairin Boshoven, Emma Curcuru, and Vivian Schmidt. The sports that fall under the at-large category include beach volleyball, bowling, crew/rowing, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, and water polo.

To be selected for the award, the student-athlete must be a starter or an important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA, have played at least 50% of their team's competitions, and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.

Boshoven started all 17 games for the Hornets as a defender, being just one of two on the defensive side of the ball to start every game. She totaled 26 ground balls, 13 caused turnovers, and a draw decision in her second season of collegiate lacrosse. Her best game came against Concordia Wisconsin when she collected three ground balls and caused turnovers a piece. Boshoven is double majoring in biology and French and has a cumulative GPA of 3.89.

Also on the defensive side of the ball is Curcuru, who played in 13 games with 11 starts after returning from injury. Even though she played four fewer games, she led the Kalamazoo defenders with 33 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers. Overall, she was third on the team in caused turnovers and fourth in ground balls while committing a team-low 12 turnovers. Her best game was in the final home game of the season against Alma, when she had seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. Majoring in English, Curcuru sports a 3.74 cumulative GPA.

Schmidt was the other defender that started all 17 games for the Hornets. On the season, she collected 22 ground balls and forced five turnovers while also winning a draw control. Against Saint Mary's, she collected a season-high five ground balls. Schmidt is double majoring in biology and psychology and has a perfect cumulative GPA of 4.00.

Now that the three student-athletes have made the district team, they will move on to the CSC Academic All-American ballot, which will be announced in June.
