7-innning non-conference game

Kalamazoo falls to Alma 1-0

The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team lost 1-0 Saturday afternoon to Alma. The Hornets are now 7-3-1 this season, and 4-3-1 in conference play.

Kalamazoo and Alma were both fighting for second place in the MIAA, so there was a fair amount riding on the game. The first half saw strong defense from both teams with very little scoring opportunities from either side. Maria Rich had a strong drive and strike in both halves, but both were saved by Alma's keeper.

The Scots scored their goal in the second half off a free kick that led to a large scramble inside the box and eventually a header that got away from the Hornet defenders. The Hornet defense was still very good throughout the game as they only gave up two shots on goal.

Kalamazoo will have its next opportunity to climb the MIAA ladder Wednesday, Oct. 8 when it takes on conference opponent Trine at home.
