ORLANDO, Fla. – The Kalamazoo College women's tennis team won its third straight match Saturday, Mar. 22 defeating George Fox (Ore.) 8-1.

"Sarah [Woods] has been battling illness the past couple days," Kalamazoo Head Coach Mark Murphy said. "This has allowed some other players to set up and compete at sixth singles."

Similar to K's victory yesterday, the Hornets got off to a quick start winning all three doubles flights. Senior Jenna Riehl and sophomore Sarah Woods defeated Taylor Barnes and Krista Rey 8-1 at first doubles. Senior Kelsey Moran and junior Olivia Bouchard won 8-3 at second doubles while sophomore Ania Latala and freshman Sabrina Dass won 8-2 at third doubles.

Riehl lost the first set 6-1 at first singles but forced a tiebreak in set two. Unfortunately, Alyssa Emoto won the tiebreak 7-4 to give the Bruins of George Fox their lone point of the dual match.

Moran also lost her first set at second singles. This time around, Kalamazoo clinched the flight winning set two 6-4 and set three 10-3 in a super tiebreaker.

Dass, Latata, Bouchard, and Zhang won third, fourth, fifth, and sixth singles respectively all in straight sets.

"Our seniors Jenna [Riehl] and Kelsey [Moran] were great leaders today," Murphy said. "Both lost the first set and battled back. That kind of effort and desire is what great players have. We look forward to competing again Tuesday."

The match Murphy speaks of is Kalamazoo's final match of its spring trip. The Hornets will play Hamilton College (N.Y.) Mar. 25.
