Women's tennis drops match at Oberlin 7-2

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Kalamazoo College women's tennis team had its four-game win streak snapped Sunday, April 6 with a 7-2 loss at Oberlin College.

Kalamazoo's victories came at third and fifth singles. Senior Kelsey Moran defeated Erin Johnson 6-4, 6-4 at third singles while sophomore Ania Latala won two close sets over Ariana Abayomi 7-6(4), 7-6(3).

After falling in all three doubles flights, senior Jenna Riehl and junior Cheryl Zhang lost at second and sixth singles respectively to clinch the match for Oberlin.

Freshman Sabrina Dass lost a three-set match at fourth singles.

Sophomore Sarah Woods fell to Brenna Sheldon 6-4, 6-4 at first singles. Coming into the match, Woods was ranked No. 1 and Sheldon No. 4 in the Central Region by itatennis.com.

Earlier this week, the Hornets defeated two Top-10 regionally ranked teams in Hope (No. 7) and Kenyon (No. 9). Oberlin currently sits at No. 10 while Kalamazoo is No. 13.

Kalamazoo dips to 9-3 on the season with the loss. The Hornets will play their third match in as many days tomorrow (Monday), April 7 against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Alma College. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. at the MAC in Lansing.
