ALMA, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College volleyball team suffered its first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) loss Wednesday, Sep. 17. The Hornets fell at Alma in straight sets by scores of 25-21, 25-17, 25-17. The loss drops K to 7-4, 3-1 MIAA on the season.

"I give all the credit to the Alma Scots," Kalamazoo Head Coach Jeanne Hess said. "They beat us in every facet of the game."

The Alma defense gave K problems all match. In fact, the Hornets did not hit for a positive attack percentage in any set, and just a -.013 clip (17 kills and 18 errors on 77 attack attempts) for the entire match.

Freshman outside hitter Kaela Van Til and junior hitter Kelsey Hill led the Hornets offensively with six and five kills respectively. Freshman libero Logan Horejsi recorded 10 digs.

As a team, K outblocked Alma 6-4 with senior right side Quinn McCormick leading the way with four block assists.

The Alma setting duo of Erika Van Havel and Mary Dulzo quarterbacked the Scot offense nicely recording 32 assists among the two, 18 for Van Havel and 14 for Dulzo.

Kalamazoo junior setter Alex Gothard dished out 13 assists in the loss.

"We will make the adjustments and focus on this upcoming weekend," said Hess.

Kalamazoo travels to Olivet on Friday, Sept. 20 for a 7 p.m. match. The following day, the Hornets make the long trip to Angola, Ind. for an 11 a.m. match with the Trine University Thunder.
