KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College volleyball team won two matches over conference foe Adrian and non-conference foe Finlandia Saturday, Oct. 5. Kalamazoo beat Adrian in five sets by scores of 23-25, 25-22, 25-22, 26-28, 15-9 and Finlandia in straight sets by scores of 25-14, 25-15, 25-10.

Senior right side Quinn McCormick recorded a match-high 17 kills in the match with Adrian. The Kalamazoo native hit a .400 clip while recording three blocks.

"Quinn [McCormick] was huge on the right side," Kalamazoo Head Coach Jeanne Hess said. "We expect her to continue to produce."

Despite the K back row giving up 15 service aces, freshman libero Logan Horejsi recorded 25 digs. Junior setter Alex Gothard dished out 42 assists while recording three blocks and three digs.

As a team, K hit just a .129 clip, but held the Bulldogs to a .095 attack percentage.

Kalamazoo had two match points in the fourth set, but could not hold on. Just as the pervious match with Adrian, the Hornets delivered in the fifth and final set.

"We expected a batte from Adrian," said Hess. "We are happy to escape with the win, but we have a lot of work to do."

Kalamazoo got a chance to work some of the kinks out against Finlandia.

Hess called upon freshman Paige Johnson to quarterback the Hornet offense. The Breighton native did just that, dishing out 32 assists in the three set victory.

Seniors Brittany Amor and Jessie Owens led K offensively with 11 and nine kills respectively. Junior middle hitter Kelsey Hill killed eight balls.

As a team, K  nearly doubled its hitting percentage from the match with Adrian, hitting a .245 clip. The Hornets led Finlandia to a mere .025.

"It was nice to see everyone contribute," said Hess.

Kalamazoo returns to action Saturday, Oct. 12, when it travels to Terre Haute, Ind., for matches with Hanover (Ind.) and host Rose-Hulman. The matches are scheduled for 3:00 and 5:00 pm respectively.
