KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College volleyball team dropped a three-set match to the Trine University Thunder Wednesday, Sept. 23 by scores of 25-23, 25-20, 29-27.

After dropping the first two sets, Kalamazoo again fell behind in set three. Trine had two match points at 24-22, a ball handling error and kill from freshman right side Paige Johnson tied the set at 24. The Thunder would earn two more match points at 25-24 and 26-25 with kills from Lauren Verkamp.

Megan Verkamp's serve caught the net at 25-24, and a kill from junior middle hitter Kelsey Hill fought off the fourth match point. After a service ace from Johnson, K had its first set point leading 27-26.

Unfortunately for Kalamazoo, Trine would win the next three points and the match. Back-to-back kills from Stephanie Radandt gave the Thunder the victory.

"Give credit to Trine," Kalamazoo Head Coach Jeanne Hess said. "They came into our house and played well. We tried switching things up in sets two and three, but couldn't push the right buttons."

Sophomore outside hitter Nya Greenstone led K with eight kills. Freshman outside hitter Kaela Van Til chipped in six kills and six digs. Freshman libero Logan Horejsi led everyone with 20 digs.

As a team, Kalamazoo hit a .108 clip compared to .2011 for Trine. The Thunder escaped with a victory despite 13 service errors.

With the loss, K falls to 13-13 on the season and 7-7 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play. The Hornets have two games remaining in the regular season; Oct. 29 vs. Hope (senior day) and Nov. 1 at Calvin.
