Baseball drops both games of a doubleheader against Hope

Joey Aliotta playing baseball.

HOLLAND, MI - The Kalamazoo College baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader on the road against Hope College today. After splitting a doubleheader yesterday in Kalamazoo, the Dutchmen wound up winning three out of the four game series. The Hornets are no 13-11 overall, and 10-6 in MIAA play.

In the first game Kalamazoo struck first with two runs in the top of the third off of the bat of Joey Aliotta. Unfortunately for the Hornets those would be the only two runs they would plate for the rest of the game.

Ian Kobernick had a nice game going 3-for-4, but he wasn't able to drive in any runs. Nic Janssen, who came into the game undefeated for Kalamazoo gave up four earned runs over 5.2 innings in his first loss of the year.

In the second game Kalamazoo couldn't get its bats to wake up. The Hornets scored no runs on three hits. The hits came from Jack Clark, Ian Kobernick, and Joey Aliotta.

Kalamazoo fell down 3-0 after the bottom of the first, and then faced a  6-0 lead by the bottom of the third that was ultimately too overwhelming to come back from.

After giving up the early six runs The Hornets did see a bright spot in pitchers Joe Giacalone, Brent Yelton, and Zack Cole who combined to pitch 3.2 innings while only giving up one run on three hits.

Kalamazoo will look to get back to its winning ways Wednesday, Apr. 15 at home against Finlandia.
