Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team split a doubleheader at Adrian on Saturday, dropping the opener 12-2 before winning the second game 10-4.

Game One

Despite leading 2-1 after two innings, Kalamazoo was defeated 12-2 in eight innings in the opener.

Tanner Hawkins drove in a run in the first with a single to centerfield. Cooper Mills single to right center in the second drove in Kalamazoo's second run.

Adrian pulled ahead with three runs in the third before adding runs in each of the fifth, sixth, seventh and eight innings to run-rule the Hornets. The Bulldogs had 18 hits in the game, while limiting Kalamazoo to three. Kalamazoo walked three times, and left seven runners on base in the game.

Cooper Mills and Tanner Hawkins each had RBI singles. Ryar Rinehart had a double.

Game Two

Kalamazoo trailed 2-0 after two innings but tied it with a pair of runs in the top of the third. Adrian took a 3-2 lead in the bottom half before Kalamazoo quickly regained the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. The Hornets scored six in the top of the fifth to make it 10-3 before an Adrian run in the bottom half made it 10-4. Neither team scored a run over the final four innings.

Kalamazoo finished with 13 hits compared to nine by Adrian.

Cooper Mills, David Stechow, Robert Newland and Logan Lockhart each had two hits for Kalamazoo.

Harrison Poeszat, and Newland each had two RBIs.

Poeszat, Hawkins, Newland and Lukas Bolton each had a double. Hawkins also scored twice.

Brenden Oprinski struck out three and walked four in the first 4.1 innings. Owen Schihl pitched the final 4.2 innings, allowing just one hit with zero walks.
