ADRIAN, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team played the rescheduled contest from Friday at Adrian and took the series after defeating Adrian 9-7 on Sunday (Apr. 14). The Hornets' record improved to 19-7 (8-3 MIAA) on the season, and the Bulldogs dropped to 16-10 (7-3 MIAA). Halfway through the conference season, Kalamazoo is second behind Hope by half of a game.

Scoring Plays

The Hornets scored a run in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead. After Cooper Mills walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch in the first, Harrison Poeszat brought him home on an RBI single to the opposite field. Adrian got two quick outs in the second, but Cam Kelly's double set up an opportunity for Mills to drive him in on another single. The Bulldogs cut the lead in half with an unearned run in the third.

Kalamazoo had a big inning in the fifth, with five runs crossing the plate to take a 7-1 lead. A pitch hit Poeszat to begin the inning, and Ryar Rinehart immediately made the pitcher pay with a two-run home run to right field. After an out, three consecutive singles by David Stechow, Robert Newland, and Alex Fenkell (RBI) scored the third run. Lukas Bolton loaded the bases with an infield single, and then Kelly and Mills drew bases-loaded walks for an RBI each.

The Bulldogs were able to tie the game in the sixth with six runs on six hits (four singles and two doubles) and an error on the Hornet defense. Kalamazoo took back the lead right away in the bottom of the inning by taking advantage of Adrian's defense. The bases became loaded on an error, a Tanner Hawkins walk, and a Stechow infield single. Rinehart scored the first run on a fielder's choice, and Fenkell laid down a squeeze bunt with Hawkins crossing the plate.

Pitching

Logan Lockhart made the start and lasted 5.1 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts. Blake Parpart relieved Lockhart in the sixth inning, got one out after facing three batters, and was charged two unearned runs.

Robert Ahlgren (3-1) received the win after getting the last out of the sixth and pitching three innings with one unearned run on four hits and three walks. Owen Schihl earned his first career save after getting the Hornets out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth.

Hitting

Every starter in the Kalamazoo lineup got at least one hit, with David Stechow leading the way with a 3-4 performance. Harrison Poeszat (RBI) and Alex Fenkell (two RBI) also had multi-hit games with two hits. Cooper Mills was on base three times with a hit and two walks with two RBI. Tanner Hawkins and Cam Kelly were on base twice, each with a hit and a walk. Ryar Rinehart had two RBI on a two-run home run, and Robert Newland also had a hit and an RBI.
