Jones, Pickell Named All-America Scholars

Jackson Jones and Parker Pickell were named  Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America this week.

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must have a stroke average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA, and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.

Jones led the Hornets with a 74.6 average this season, the fifth-best average in school history. He graduated in June as the career leader with a 74.7 average. He shot a season-best 72 multiple times this spring while earning medalist honors at the season's final MIAA Jamboree at Alma. Jones was recognized for the second consecutive year as All-MIAA First Team and GCAA All-Region. This is also his second consecutive year earning All-America Scholar honors.

Pickell finished his junior year with a 77.3 average, shooting a season-best 73 at Wuskowhan. His career average of 76.3 currently ranks fifth in school history.

This is the fifth consecutive year a Hornet men's golfer has earned All-America Scholar honors. Jones is the third Hornet to earn it twice while Pickell is the fifth different Hornet to earn the award. The two join previous award winners Nick Ludka '19, Travis Veenhuis '19, and Phil Ritchie '17

Coached by Josh Burt, Kalamazoo finished fourth in the COVID-shortened MIAA season with a 314.83 team average.
