After Defiance quickly tied the game, the Hornets went on a 7-0 run that stretched into the second quarter, giving Kalamazoo significant breathing room. Hans Wieland and McDonell each scored two goals on the run and K led 10-2 at the half.

The Hornets picked up right where they left off in the first half scoring four straight goals to open the third quarter.

Defiance added one more goal in the third but Kalamazoo scored the game's final three goals.

McDonell and Wieland each ended their days with five goals to lead the team. McDonell added two assists while Wieland had one.
