CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team picked up its third win of the season Wednesday evening on the campus of Mt. St. Joseph. The Hornets defeated the Lions, 8-3.

The Hornets had it going early as they jumped out to a 3-1 lead by the end of the first quarter courtesy of two goals from Brett Fitzgerald and another from Doug Shipp.

Kalamazoo continued to build its lead in the second 15 minutes of play as Jake Bonifacio picked up two goals, one assisted by Clapton Marquis and the other assisted by Hans Wieland, and ultimately allowed the Hornets to lead 5-2 at halftime.

Putting the game away in the second half, the Hornets scored three unanswered goals—one each for Fitzgerald, Shipp and Bonifacio—before the Lions got a goal back with less than seven minutes remaining.

The Hornets outshot the Lions, 32-20, and won the ground ball battle, 27-19. K was also successful on 14-of-15 clear attempts.

Nate Silverman made four saves in goal for the Hornets.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to complete its non-conference slate of games on March 30 when the Hornets travel back home to MacKenzie Field for a showdown with North Central.
