Men's Lacrosse Falls to DePauw in Season Opener

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team lost its season opener 8-4 to DePauw University at home Thursday night. The game was initially scheduled for Wednesday, but was moved to Thursday due to the ice storm in the area.

DePauw scored the game's first goal just over four minutes into the contest. The Tigers scored two more goals over the next five minutes to take a 3-0 lead.

Kalamazoo got on the board with 4:06 left in the first on Vincent Tremonti's first goal of the season. DePauw responded with two more goals to lead 5-1 at the end of the first quarter.

Logan Gillis scored just over a minute into the second quarter to make it a 5-2 game. DePauw went up 6-2 with 10:52 left, a score that would stand into halftime.

Neither team scored in the third quarter despite 15 combined shots in the period. DePauw pulled ahead 7-2 with a goal early in the fourth. Jake Asnis made it 7-3 with a total at the 11:11 mark. Logan Gillis' second goal at 10:07 (Ronin Honda assist) cut the deficit to three (7-4), but the Hornets were unable to get any closer. DePauw scored its final goal with 18 seconds left in the contest.

DePauw outshot Kalamazoo 37-28 overall, 15-13 on goal. DePauw won 12 of the 15 faceoffs and had a 41-38 edge in ground balls.

JJ Ohren-Hoeft led the Hornets with six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Dylan Wickey made seven saves in goal.

The Hornets return to action Saturday, March 25, with a 4 p.m. start at Earlham College.
