Men's Lacrosse Falls 9-7 at Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team was defeated 9-7 at Augustana University Saturday afternoon.

Kalamazoo scored first just over a minute and a half into the game and led 3-0 with 8:38 left in the first quarter. Augustana scored its only goal of the quarter at the 5:03 mark, giving Kalamazoo a 3-1 advantage at the end of one.

The Vikings scored quickly in the second and scored four goals in just over seven minutes to take a 5-3 lead. Kalamazoo made it a 5-4 game going into halftime with a goal with 2:36 left. 

Augustana made it a 7-4 game with the first two goals in the third. Ryan Warezak's second goal of the game came at 8:15, making it 7-5 in favor of Augustana. The Vikings scored again with 5:54 remaining to make it 8-5, a score that would hold through the end of the third quarter.

Augustana pulled ahead 9-5 early in the fourth. The Hornets chipped away with goals at 9:28 and 6:25, but could not find the back of the net on their last 10 shots of the game.

Kalamazoo outshot Augustana 46-41, including 29-23 on goal. Augustana won 15-of-20 faceoffs and held a 25-22 edge in ground balls, despite turning the ball over 21 times to Kalamazoo's 13. 

Ryan Warezak led Kalamazoo with two goals. Logan Gillis had a goal and an assist. 

Jake Asnis scored a goal and led the team with four ground balls. Dylan Wickey made 14 saves in goal.

Kalamazoo (3-2) is back in action Monday, March 20, at Edgewood College in Wisconsin.
