Men's Lacrosse Secures MIAA Tournament Bid With Win at Trine

ANGOLA, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team secured a spot in the MIAA Tournament for the first time in school history with a 15-8 win at Trine on Saturday. The Hornets finished the regular season 7-7 overall and 3-3 in the MIAA, both program bests. 

Kalamazoo scored the first goal in the game but trailed 2-1 just over four minutes into the contest. After falling behind 3-2, Kalamazoo scored three straight to go up 5-3. Trine scored the last two goals of the quarter making it a 5-5 game after one.

Kalamazoo scored three goals in the first seven minutes of the second quarter before adding one with 48 seconds left in the half to take a 9-5 lead into the break.

Kalamazoo scored three straight to start the third, going up 12-5. Kalamazoo led 12-6 at the end of the third. Kalamazoo outscored Trine 3-2 in the fourth leading to the 15-8 final.

Kalamazoo outshot Trine 36-30 overall, 25-17 on goal. The Hornets won 14 of the 26 faceoffs.

Ronin Honda led the Hornets with five goals. Logan Gillis scored three goals with an assist. 

Jake Asnis scored two goals with two assists. Vincent Tremonti scored twice. Jack Jesko had a goal and three assists.

As the fourth seed in the MIAA Tournament, Kalamazoo will travel to top-seeded Albion on Wednesday, May 3.
