KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team hosted Trine to continue MIAA play on Saturday (Oct. 7). The Hornets now have two ties to begin the conference season, as the Thunder forced a 1-1 draw.

Shun Yonehara made his way back into the starting lineup as he, Henry Plumstead, and Junior Matuza joined Gavin HoutkooperColin HalloranMichele AliaPaul KearisEmilio RomoChad EwingJeremiah Heath, and Antoine Kondracki

The physicality of tonight's game started immediately as Kalamazoo would rack up 28 fouls and five yellow cards to Trine's 16 fouls and two yellow cards by the end of the night. One of the Thunder fouls took place in the Hornets' box in the 21st minute; drawing a penalty kick, Plumstead stepped up and buried the chance in the low left corner for his fourth of the season. Trine tied the game back up in the 39th minute as a corner kick found its way to Gavin Hardy for the equalizer right before the half.

The game struggled to get into a flow as the clock was constantly stopping and starting due to the fouls and cards in the second half. Only 14 total shots were taken by both teams for the entire game. Kalamazoo struggled to get good scoring opportunities, as only two shots had a chance of hitting the back of the net.

Houtkooper finished with three saves on four attempts. The Hornets had more shots (8-6), corner kicks (6-5), saves (3-1) and fouls (28-16).

Kalamazoo will continue MIAA play with a road game at Hope on Wednesday (Oct. 11), beginning at 7 p.m.
