KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College softball team defeated North Park University 3-0 and 4-3 at home on Sunday afternoon.
Game One
Kalamazoo scored one in the first and two in the third en route to a 3-0 win in the opener.
Kalamazoo had six hits in the game. Maddy Vrba went the distance in the circle, allowing just four hits, while striking out seven and walking two in the shutout.
Emma Newlove was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Mackenzie Moore also had a double. Brynna Garden had an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
Game Two
North Park scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the third to take a 2-0 lead. After being held hitless through four innings, Kalamazoo scored four runs on three hits and aided by an error to take a 4-2 lead. North Park scored one in the sixth to make it 4-3, and left a runner stranded on second. In the top of the seventh, North Park loaded the bases with one out. An errant pitch was quickly recovered and a North Park runner was thrown out at home for the second out. A foul popout near the third base dugout ended the game in favor of the Hornets.
North Park had six hits in the game compared to five by Kalamazoo. The Hornets walked nine times and left ten runners on base in the game, including leaving the bases loaded in the first and fourth innings.
Emma Newlove finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Brynna Garden had a hit and an RBI. Bella Caza also had a hit and an RBI.
Jordan Cook went the distance in the circle, allowing just one earned run while striking out three and walking three.
