KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team opened conference play at home on Wednesday night with an 85-29 defeat to Trine.

Trine, ranked No. 6 in the latest national polls, jumped out to an 11-0 lead to open the game and never looked back. The Thunder led 44-15 at halftime behind strong shooting and suffocating defense.

Kalamazoo struggled to overcome that pressure throughout the game, shooting 18.5 percent from the floor and 7.1 percent from three point range while Trine connected on 52.8 percent of their attempts from the field and 60 percent of their shots from behind the arc.

Kayla Freeman led Trine with a game-high 13 points off of the bench.

For Kalamazoo, Emily Kozal led the way offensively with nine points on 7-8 shooting from the free throw line while Mya Gough pulled in eight rebounds to go along with four points.

The Hornets will travel to Adrian for their next contest on Dec. 13th, which will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
