Women's Basketball loses opener at Dominican

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team lost its season opener 69-41 at Dominican University Saturday evening.

Kalamazoo led 11-8 after the first quarter, but the Hornets were outscored 19-7 in the second and trailed 27-18 at halftime. The host Stars added to their lead with 32 points in the third quarter. Kalamazoo won the fourth 14-10, but it wasn't enough to overcome the large deficit following the third quarter.

Dominican shot 40.6 percent overall while limiting Kalamazoo to 24.6 percent. The Stars also held a 48-40 advantage in rebounds, including 21-17 on the offensive end.

Kaytlyn Tidey led the Hornets with 20 points and five rebounds in her first collegiate game.

Sierra Fraser added 12 points with a team-high seven rebounds and two blocked shots. Darby Scott scored six points with four rebounds in her first game for the Hornets.

Kalamazoo returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at Goshen College.
