Women's Lacrosse Comes Up Short In Season Opener

ADA, Ohio - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team was unable to overcome a slow start offensively in a 12-10 loss in the season opener at Ohio Northern University on Wednesday.

Ohio Northern scored the game's first goal nearly three minutes into the contest. Kalamazoo tied the score with a goal just 11 seconds later however, the host Polar Bears scored five straight over the next 11 minutes to take a 6-1 lead. Kalamazoo scored four of the next five goals making it a 7-5 game at halftime. 

Ohio Northern scored the first two goals of the second half and led by at least three goals until 6:10 remaining when the Hornets cut the deficit to two (12-10). Neither team scored over the final six minutes.

Kalamazoo outshot Ohio Northern 28-22.

Lilly Baumann led the Hornets with four goals and an assist with six ground balls and seven caused turnovers.

Sam Jacobsen scored three goals.

Rose Bogard recorded five ground balls with five draw controls.

Gwen Davis made six saves in goal.

Kalamazoo is back in action Saturday, Feb. 22 at Indiana Tech.
