Women's Lacrosse Defeats Concordia Chicago

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team defeated Concordia University Chicago 12-9 Sunday afternoon at MacKenzie Field.

Neither team led by more than one goal in the first half as Concordia led 4-3 at the end of the first and Kalamazoo up 6-5 at halftime.

Concordia tied it up at 6-6 early in the third quarter, but Kalamazoo's three goals in a span of four minutes midway through the quarter gave the Hornets a 9-6 advantage. Concordia scored with 2:06 left in the quarter making it a 9-7 game at the end of three.

The Cougars scored the first two goals in the fourth, tying it back up at 9-9. Kalamazoo went ahead for good with a goal at the 7:59 mark. the Hornets scored again at 5:15 and 4:01 while holding Concordia scoreless over the final nine minutes to take the 12-9 win.

Kalamazoo outshot Concordia 32-28 overall, 26-18 on goal.

Kalamazoo held a 15-10 advantage in draw controls. Concordia had 24 ground balls to Kalamazoo's 18.

Ella Spooner led the Hornets with five goals, one assist and four draw controls.

Abbie Caza scored four goals. Hannah Heeren had three goals with one assist, three draw controls, seven ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Sophie Hartl led the Hornets with seven draw controls.

Jordan Flink was credited with nine saves in goal.

Kalamazoo returns to action Thursday, March 30 at Concordia Wisconsin.
